Searching for better opportunities during the war years, Mr. Verplank moved his operation to Pennsylvania driving all of the equipment slowly across the existing roads and turnpikes.

Mr. Verplank returned to Indiana in 1941 as the Verplank sons, Lawrence, Carl, and Glenn, were added to the Company in partnership. Grandson Jerry began his career at age 11 working summers as water boy for the crews. After college and military experience, Jerry returned to the Company learning every aspect of the business.

The Company moved to Zionsville Indiana in 1951 and then to 5265 East 96th Street, Indianapolis Indiana in 1989.  After the passing of Lawrence at an early age and Glenn in 1967, Carl and Jerry ran the business. In 1968, Jerry took over and reestablished the Company as Calumet Asphalt Paving Co., Inc.

In 1999, Jerry Verplank retired turning the business over to key employees. The Company is now involved in all phases of site development including...Asphalt Paving, Stone Base, Earth Work, Pipe and Underground Utility Installation, Culvert Installation, and more. The Company also offers a state-of-the-art - Vacuum Truck - available for all of your clean-up needs. In November 2007, the offices moved to a brand new facility on Fieldstone Drive, Whitestown, Indiana. Along with this relocation, the company took on a new name more reflective of its broader scope: Calumet Civil Contractors, Inc.
